There are only a handful of albums that marked a pivotal change in my listening tastes.
Depeche Mode's 1981 album Speak & Spell is one of them.
Something about Vince Clarke contributing to the sound makes it that much better for me. DM are one of those bands that I'm happy to see still hitting the tour circut. Glad they didn't die off early like so many of ther peers.

Highly sought after Texas DJ, blogger, and member of the always hard hitting Unit One crew, Keith's die hard passion for all things dead and re-buried are evident in this relentless mix. Death By Stereo

The Hitchhiker is a long running mystery/horror series developed by HBO in the 80's and later aired on the USA network in the early 90's. Similar in structure to The Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits, and Tales From The Darkside, each episode explored supernatural tales of human tragedy and regularly featured notable actors like Klaus Kinksi, Gary Busey, and Willem Dafoe. The bottom video is from Kinksi's episode called "Love Sounds". The clip should speak for itself and explain why I like this series so much. I'll leave you with this track from New Order and just for fun, watch the video on mute and play the song. Gives the stereo a more menacing look while watching Klaus Kinski's head explode to Peter Hook's bassline.

The Fear

Wow, this takes me back. Back to a time when the burgeoning term"electronica" was applied to any new intelligent electronic dance music. Warp and Astrelwerks built their empires on releases like this track from µ-Ziq. This "new" sound would give birth to countless subgenres that have thrived and died since this was released.Whenever I hear this song, vivid images of my youth flash through my mind with a hazy yellow-orange glare like the bleached out halo of light surrounding a setting sun as in late 70's films. I can't really say alot of other songs do that for me. Quite special really. Anyone else ever have that feeling from listening to music?

Anybody remember ARAWA friend Weird Tapes? Kidding. Duh. He's a man that started from modest beginnings, blessed with a fine ear and a ravenous love for music that puts most to shame. From the poppiest of pop to to the most avant of garde, all these influences run through his music like blood down the hallway of the Overlook. And like the old Overlooks creator, Stephen King (umm... House of Pain anybody?) writes horror, meaning constantly, in almost inhuman volume, so is Tapes to his music. Working overtime, seemingly all the time, he shows King up, keeping quality through quantity with all his projects, be it Memory Cassette, Weird Tapes and now the culmination, the beautiful freak child of the two styles and monikers, Memory Tapes.

Tapes has been with us from the beginning and we're ecstatic he's with us to celebrate ARAWA's most favoritest of holidays. Here's what's been making my walks home after dark all the more exciting, his all original 17 minute epic and love letter to the art of horror movie scoring, Walk Me Home. Turn off the lights and enjoy my pretties.

Show your friends how fucking rad you are and pick up Memory Tapes' incredible debut album, the recently BNMed Seek Magic and Memory Cassette's Call and Response EP from Acephale Records. Oh Acephale. Such good taste.

Tubular

Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells. A beautiful piece of music. The record that built the Virgin empire, the record that blew many a stoned mind, and the record that if taken out of context and used as a soundtrack to an exorcism, becomes really freaky. Its had a billion incarnations and besides the original, this has to be my favorite.
