Video Violence

This film was frequently on the HBO "Short Takes," which were short films that played in-between the full-length movies in the 70s and 80s on the network. The movie involves a man who attends a job interview in a building, and when he arrives he is attacked by 2 scheming and murderous videotapes. He tries to escape the videotapes, even running down the hall and shutting himself into a room by himself. But they find a way to slither underneath the carpet and continue attacking him. Ultimately, they "eat" the man! Excellent!!!

It's a Keeper

1983's "The Keep" is an odd gothic horror, sci-fi gem from Michael Mann. The storyline is difficult to follow and the continuity in the editing is a little lacking. However, the special effects and amazing soundtrack scored by Tangerine Dream make it a worthwhile trip. If you like dark sweeping synth soundscapes with images of nazi's being mutilated, this is the flick for you. This movie will most likely never see a DVD print, so for those of you who like the old school warm fuzzies of a VHS rip, you can find the downloadable version of the flick here

Hello campers, Tommyboy here. I totally wanted this first Halloweenish post to suck hard. If you haven't guessed already, we're going for a Vlad the Impaler theme here. Hopefully by the time you've worked through this stuff, your platelets will have coagulated.

Let's start with a lovely little sample from the Bollywood horror disaster known as "Khuni Dracula". For some reason, I can't resist the low budget catchiness of these Indian stinkers

Enjoy this lovely little find from the 1979 German film "Dracula Blows His Cool". The track is called "Rock Me Dracula (Suck Me! Suck Me!)". Just one of many Vampire themed disco hits that came out around this time. It's curious how the Count could even find a vein with his teeth so numb.



and let me leave you with one of many posts to come from Empire's first album. This is a lovely krautrockin' disco jam which is a little long in the tooth. Don't let that deter you from enjoying in it's carnal delights. Sure to be a dancefloor killer. Really this whole album is begging for edit treatment. Enjoy

Lets start things off with Angela's Theme from Sleepaway Camp. Frankie Vinci recorded this with an old Casio, an electric guitar and a four track and ended up with Goblin for AM radio.

Can't say enough about this track. AM gold meets FM electricity with heavy soul over a nice low slung groove, killer cosmic synth solo and even a little psychedelic sitar to round it all out. One of my fave finds of the past year easy.

This one's produced by Pit Floss. C'mon Mom and Dad. Really? You couldn't find a name more abhorrent? Luckily poor Pit overcame his handicap in '84 turning in an excellent 12" under the name Novo. This is the souped up instrumental flipside of Extremix, chintzy hi NRG italo at its best, bouncing synth-bass, bits of vocoder and Pit doin' horn hits like crazy.

This song comes off as a happy hybrid between Michael Rother and Mark Knopfler, softly evoking the feeling of cruising leisurely through the Tuscan hills, top down, one arm on the wheel, the other tapping time on the car door.

Oops. Been too long again.

First off, as our indian summer fades quickly into fall let me leave this 1986 track as a sort of eulogy and remembrance for the season past. Bye summer. I'll totally miss you.
