Paging Giorgio!

All hail Giorgio Moroder. The man with the fakest real moustache, the man with the highest amount of good (and bad) songs ever and of course, ARAWA's unofficial mascot and prom king ('77-present). I thought I knew everything about the man (underwear size, lunchmeat preferences) until yesterday when I came upon this amazing single. In 1978, on a lone 7" under the pseudonym The Beepers, Giorgio crafted two kitschy vocoded songs bridging the gap between his past sugary pop-rockin self and his future, as a sequencer brained computer disco overlord. Proving once again the man can be truly ridiculous and absolutely fucking awesome. Simultaneously.

Nightworld

Tonight I'll dream of shining skyscrapers rising from the darkest sea. Neon sunset lights reflected from mirrored windows, brushed metals and ocean sprays flickering across anonymous grey coastlines. A piano lies in the sand, sinking slowly into the earth as each wave rolls by, the ground pulling away from beneath. Its dusty, broken keys play untouched by human hand, their ghostly melodies drifting up to the seagulls as they hover, frozen in place in the sky.

Day Dream

L.A. Messina's (best name ever?) accent lies heavy on this light and fluffy 1983 track packed with strange grammar choices (I feel you wings to fly?), classic Italo production and unintelligible words. From what I can make out, it's something about daydreams coming true and mind rainbows. And seriously folks, who are we to deny the radness of mind rainbows?

Nobody. That's who.

Melody

I can't even deal with how cute that picture is. Ohmigawd. That little mouse was listening to this cutesy little Italo+chipmunk jam, totally rocking out and bashed his head on something probably. Then he just hangs out in bed happy as a clam, listening to tiny records and drawing pictures with giant crayons while his chipmunk friends roll by and say wassup? And that painting of cheese over his bed?! Wow.

If you think you can out-cute this, bring it.

Bad Skinned

The long legacy of all-star edit awesomeness (Tim Sweeney, Betty Botox, "Wade Nichols", Mock and Toof and Lovefingers) that is Rvng's series RVNG of the NRDs continues on this month with Runaway's Jacques Renault. I've yet to hear side B (as my copy is still en route) but side A finds Renault more than happy to lay down and wallow in the mire that is dirty disco in two tracks of (get) radness. With more sweaty grooves and richocheting blips and bloops than a bathhouse Lazer Tag session here's my pick of the two, Bad Skinned.
